Career Day |
|
On September 12th, 2004 there was an open day at Continuum. Families of Continuum employees were invited to visit the facility and participate in a tour of the building. The guests were guided through departments by Continuum employees, who gave them a short overview of the work they do. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the guests with the laser environment and the functions each employee performs so that everyone could get a better idea of how the business works. The visit to the Final Test labs turned out to be the most interesting. Many demos and experiments were set up there to demonstrate a wide range of exciting things that can be done with the use of lasers.
Some of them were:
|
- Dual HeNe lasers dancing display oscillating off of a mirror glued on a speaker
- Drilling a hole through a penny with a focused high power high energy laser at 1064 nm
- Popping a red balloon inside a clear balloon without breaking the clear balloon
- Sound effect of air zapping when Powerlite 9030 is focused in space, demonstrating ionization of molecules in air
|
The turn-out was great – the visitors had to be divided into 3 groups. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. After the tour was over, some giveaways were distributed among the youngest of the participants, and everyone was invited for a BBQ! |
